The Tasmanian government has announced the introduction of Development Assessment Panels (DAPs). DAPs will allow certain developments to be determined by panels appointed by the planning commission, allowing developers to effectively go around local councils.
Planning Matters Alliance Tasmania’s Sophie Underwood and Clarence Mayor Brendan Blomeley tell Leon Compton on Tasmania Mornings that the move is designed to sideline councils, stakeholders and communities.
But Planning Minister, Felix Ellis, tells Leon that good developments are being knocked back.
“We have got too many good developments being knocked back by local councils … the reason they get knocked back is because of NIMBY politics”, he says.
