Rosny Hill Nature Recreation Area is a valuable community asset loved by locals. It has uninterrupted views of Hobart with the spectacular kunanyi / Mt Wellington in the background and the Derwent River at its feet.

But large-scale, inappropriate development is casting a shadow over Rosny Hill, threatening to take away this valuable community asset with previous plans in 2014 for 102 hotel rooms (including pods), a 250-seat restaurant, 300 seat conference centre, indoor pool, kiosk, 160-space car park. 

Join the Rosny Hill Friends Network on Saturday 20 January 2018 to experience why we need to protect Rosny Hill Nature Recreation Area from inappropriate development.

There will be a free sausage sizzle, free juice, coffee and an ice-cream van.

If you have a spare hour or two and would like to see Rosny Hill from the lookout and/or join in some activities, please pop in to this event. It aims to raise awareness of the beauty and value of the hill, which is threatened by an inappropriate, large-scale development in the very near future.

Directions: Access to the reserve is off Akuna Street, Rosny (follow signs from Rosny Hill Road). Parking is available just inside the reserve entrance or at the second carpark at the lookout.

Rosny Hill is currently zoned public land, but much of it could be privatised through the development plans. This would set an undesirable precedent for privatising public land and in particular hilltops and hill-faces around the Derwent River.

The natural conservation values of the small green hilltop, home to significant native bushland and endangered flora species, must be protected.   

Large-scale development of the small hill would significantly increase traffic issues on the narrow residential streets around the hill, and lead to the loss of many acres of native bushland. 

A local community group the Rosny Hill Friends Network supports some development for the hill, but it must be appropriate for the local environment.
