PMAT’s (Planning Matters Alliance Tasmania) will tomorrow host a public meeting to discuss the development of Macquarie Point and the future of the agreed Master Development Plan for the site, developed and published with community consultation in advance of the Premier’s proclamation that the site should instead be used to develop an AFL-grade sports stadium.
Mac Point’s Future Public Meeting
Tomorrow – Wednesday 16 November
1 – 2 pm
Hobart Town Hall
Representatives from all political parties have been invited to speak.
Speakers Include:
Professor Greg Lehman (Art historian, curator, writer and participant in the Masterplan development process) Richard Flanagan (Writer)
Evan Boardman (Professional Planner)
Ruth Langford (Mac Point business owner)
John Kelly (Hobart City Councillor and business owner)
Kristie Johnstone (Independent MHA)
Cassy O’Connor (Greens Landers and MHA)

As recently as late June 2022, the Premier and relevant minister issued a statement lauded the remediation and planning work done at Mac Point and celebrated “the planning and approvals for The District which comprises three areas, The Gateway, The Promenade and The Underground, which is now ready to go to market.”
PMAT does not have a position on the proposed stadium at Mac Point and has called the meeting to generate community discussion and investigate the planning processes already undertaken for the master planning process, and what is proposed with regards to the new stadium proposal.
